Walk It Off, Biatches!
Well, I predicted 6 and 2/3 from Mr. Snell - he gave us 5 and 2/3. I predicted 5 hits, he let up 7. I predicted 2 ER, he gave up 3. Carmine said one boy, and here are two. Oh so close, but I guess my reign as Nostradamus is over.
Random thoughts:
(1) That catch by Endy in the 11th is one of the best plays I've ever seen at Shea. Oh, nice camera coverage, SportsNet. Instead of seeing Endy closing in at full sprint to make the play, we got to see a disinterested Carlos Beltran meandering vaguely toward where the ball was about to land. Hey Willie - if Carlos is going to "patrol" CF like that, why not just start Endy there for now?
(2) I had no problem with Willie pulling Pedro after 6 given the conditions at Shea. But once again Willie leads with his chin after the game. No, he didn't cite the rainy conditions as the reason he pulled Pedro. Why did he pull him? "We needed to score a run in that spot." Willie, Willie, Willie. How can I put this so even you will understand? JOSE VALENTIN IS NOT GOING TO HELP YOU DO THAT. He is hitting .125 this year, he hit .170 last year, and .216 the year before that. This is not a fluke. IT'S OVER.
With that in mind, I hereby propose a radical idea, which is actually not so radical when you think about it. Valentin has 3 hits in 24 ABs this year. The Mets have a lefthanded bat on the bench who has that many hits in only 8 at-bats, who hit 33 points higher than Valentin last year, and who does not strike out NEARLY as much. That's right, I'm talking about Tommy Glavine. Answer honestly, Met fans: Who would you rather see at the plate right now? I thought so. Until the Mets can pick up another lefty bat somewhere, I nominate Tommy Glavine for lefty pinch hitter! Of course, it'll never happen, it makes too much darn sense.
(3) I loved Delgado's home run. A walk-off in a driving rain to the opposite field? I'm sorry, but that's a MAN'S home run. Um, not that there's anything wrong with that. (No, no johnny cakes for me, but thank you).
(4) Wagner does not have me freaking out just yet. True, he has already blown as many saves as he did all last year, but I'm not panicking for some reason. Why? Beats me, but I probably should be. That was atrocious last night. Willie's take? "Guys hit some good pitches off him, so you tip your cap to them." Um, Willie? He didn't blow it because "guys hit some good pitches." He walked two guys and they both scored. It's not complicated.
Finally, a non-Mets note: Apparently Barry Bonds got hit in the head with a ball during batting practice yesterday. Not only do I not find this unusual, I'm shocked it hasn't happened before. Look at the size of this thing. You'd have to go out of your way NOT to hit it.

That's a huge noggin! Move that melon of yours and get the paper...
I like the fact that SNY screwed up the angle on the endy catch. Just makes it look more crazy that someone actually caught that ball. And it didn't even get #1 on the web gems (that undeservingly went to some 3B'er on the marlins).
We have won 2 of the 3 games that Wagner has blown so far, so that softens the blow, but it's a little disconcerting. He's been playing enough that the rust should be shaken. Chalk it up to bad weather conditions?
As for predictions:
Snell:
Me 5.2 ip, 6 h, 4 er, 4 bb
Real 5.2 ip, 7 h, 3 er, 4 bb
Pedro:
me 7 ip, 5 h, 3 er, 1 bb (j. bay 2r-hr)
real 6 ip, 3 h, 1 er, 1 bb (f. sanchez solo hr)
we should make this a weekly challenge...loser buys some mozz sticks!

Endy is starting to play pretty well
agre Carlos loafs it out there

Nobody seems to be panicing about Wagner yet. I'm guessing it's mostly because the team is winning. Personally, I also think that Wagner did not pitch enough in the spring and is slowly getting back to form (with his velocity slowly rising accordingly).

Delgado's walk-off made Wagner's blown save palatable. Watching that ball fly, particularly after that game Monday where no one could hit it out, gave me goose bumps.
Did everyone catch that the front office announced that if you had tickets to the game last night (regardless of whether or not you actually went) you can trade them in for tickets to another game? I think Darling's talk of the hardcore fans at Candlestick got the front office thinking... Way to go Ronny!
BTW...Did Toasted Joe have tickets to last night's game?
As for Bond's heed... I'm not kiddin it's like an orange on a toothpick. Thats a huge noggin, it's a virtual planetoid... has its own weather system.

The did that last year too. Regardless if you went or not, the shitty weather also gets you another ticket. That being said, if they sold tickets like the Yankees, you would have to live it. When you sell 65% to 70% of your total tickets a year, you can do these types of things and still rake in money at the concessions. Yeah, they do not have to do it, but they are not being that altruistic.

I apologize for not giving Sonny D props for his prediction re: Snell which I guess was somewhat more accurate than mine. We're just swimming in Nostradamuses (Nostradami?) over here.

Batting Glavine makes little sense. Why risk him gettung hurt. He's much to valuable as a pitcher
2:41 PM
Obviously I was being somewhat cheeky. I wouldn't have wanted Tommy running around a wet infield last night either. But we don't have to worry about that any more, because I just saw the Mets signed Jose Offerman! Thank god we're done with washed up pinch hitters like Valentin.

David Cone pinch hit quite a few times back in the day and smacked some doubles. It is not unheard of and Livan and Dontrelle do it too. You do what it takes to win. They are baseball players not fine china...though some players seem like it.
3:23 PM
Alex "fine china" Rodriguez...I like the sound of that!
3:42 PM
Mr. March is by the far the Alex Rodriguez nickname. I love it.
The guy gets a game winning hit and STILL gets ripped.
Did you all see the A-Rod clips on I had posted on my site? Check last Friday and Saturday if you did not.
4:55 PM
You gotta love this guy.
My father Carmine Santino says Clark deserves an A. Carmine Santino, my father says that.
-Has this bad boy been swimming? They love to swim, but...tsk, tsk, the chlorine. I tell him, "you are very disobedient dragon!" I make joke!
-Oh! Ha ha ha. Yes, it's a very funny joke, it's a...different joke.
-Yes, well, if we do not have laughter, then what do we have?
And so forth.
7:16 PM
It's actually Carmine Sabbatini, not Santino. Close enough.
