Epilogue
Paul Lo Duca, '07: On November 23, 2007, signs one-year, $3 million contract with Dodgers to back up Russell Martin in 2008. However, after Jorge Posada signs 4-year, $50 million contract with the Mets on December 2, George Steinbrenner scrambles to buy out Lo Duca's contract for $70 million. Lo Duca goes on to lead the Yankees to 14th straight playoff appearance while hitting .330.Carlos Delgado, '07: Signs as new designated hitter with Baltimore Orioles, where he proceeds to amazingly rediscover his stroke, blasting 46 home runs and 130 RBIs in 2008.
Billy Wagner, '07: Retires to Alpaca farm in rural Virginia, where he lovingly tends to prized mare named "So Taguchi."
Tom Glavine, '07: Unhappy with his trainwreck of a last start in 2007, signs $400,000 contract with Braves to play "one last year." Wins 2008 Cy Young award while going 5-0 against the Mets with 1.02 ERA.
Aaron Heilman, Jorge Sosa, Aaron Sele, Scott Schoenweis, '07: All go on to long and fruitful careers as batting practice pitchers in minor leagues.
Guillermo Mota. '07: After remaining year on 2-year contract is bought out by Mets, Mota reinvents himself as power-hitting outfielder. After 3 long years of hard work in minor leagues, he is finally called up by Cardinals on July 9, 2010. Busted for steroids on July 10, 2010.
Moises Alou, '07: Signs one-year contract with San Diego Padres to replace Milton Bradley, who is committed to mental institution after taking swing at cop during 2007 New Year's Eve incident. While running after fly ball during 5th game of 2008 season, Alou's right leg, left arm, and right ear literally fall off his body. Retires shortly thereafter.
Orlando Hernandez, '07: Attempts comback with Mets for 2008, but is diagnosed in spring training with arthritis, bursitis, gout, goiter, the staggers, and hysterical blindess. Retires.
Willie Randolph, '07: Is fired by GM Omar Minaya on October 2, 2007 for rank incompetence. Parting words: "I trusted my guys."
Omar Minaya, '07: Is fired by COO Jeff Wilpon on October 3, 2007 for outrageous Brian Bannister/Ambiorix Burgos trade and Mota signing.
Jeff Wilpon, '07: Is fired by his father, Fred Wilpon, on October 4, 2007, for "fucking up my team." Sent to room without supper.
Fred Wilpon, '07: Loses control of Mets on October 5, 2007 after hostile takeover by Cablevision. James Dolan installed as new Mets Chairman. Isiah Thomas appointed new GM and manager.
Jose Reyes, David Wright, Carlos Beltran, John Maine, Oliver Perez, '07: All traded by Thomas on October 6, 2007 in package to Boston Red Sox in exchange for Manny Ramirez, in what Thomas describes as a bid to get the Mets to be "more athletic." Thomas also signs Rey Ordonez from Boise Buckaroos of independent league to $50 million contract.
Toasty Joe, '07: Month-long inability to sleep or eat and persistent bouts of nausea miraculously disappear on October 1, 2007. Several weeks later, watches New York Yankees sew up 27th World Championship with 4-game sweep of Colorado Rockies. Nausea returns.

your carlos beltran mole facts are absolutely hilarious.

Enjoyable post, Toasty.
But I'm in no mood for laughs. I'll come back and give you an LOL or two in about a month and a half.

Ugh, the Glavine one hurts the most because it's entirely possible that it could indeed happen.
8:10 AM
I heard that Lastings Milledge will sit out next season to join the cast of "Dancing with the Stars"....

Toasty Senior is speechless save to say that he's glad that Uncle Toasty was overseas and missed the biggest NY choke since the Giants caught the Dodgers in '51.

I concur with d-- our condolences. If you're still coherent come Thursday, there's plenty of room left on the bandwagon this October.
Plus, you at least have the false hope generated by last night's ree-diculous performance by the Jints D to sustain you for a bit.

I'm glad you brought that up, lurker. The Giants' win last night was the dictionary definition of "bittersweet." Normally a Giant pasting of the Eagles and their asshole fans would have had me dancing in the streets. But last night, it only cheered me up maybe .002%. On the flipside, however, it probably deflated the mood of Philadelphia fans by around 30%, so that's something.

I'm hardly the most die hard fan on this blog and others, so I can't be sure if my opinions matter or are even coherent. But I've already heard the Willie-protectors out in full force, both on TV and the radio. And I'm torn.....are we, as fans, crazy that Willie may not be that good of a manager (and that, at the very least, he's not a good leader of men) and are the talking heads, with all their purported experience, the voice of reason today?
They make a compelling argument.....within 1 out of the WS last year. First place all year this year. Willie's a proven winner over his career, with something like 14 WS appearances. And losing 7 of 17 is not something that you can pin on a manager, the players truly sucked.
My conclusion: either the team needs to be blown up, or Willie needs to go. Glavine, gone (was this the Braves' master plan, to plant a mole on the Mets?). LoDuca, gone. Delgado, gone. Green, gone. Heilman, gone. Wagner....possibly gone. And Reyes needs to get his facking act together. If the team comes back as is, then Willie needs to go. I'm furious today. The Mets had to come up big yesterday and, even given Glavine's shitshow, scored 1 run. Leading off the game for the Mets Reyes needed to do something. He made an out. Looking up at the scoreboard, Rollins needed to do something for the Phillies. He walked, stole second, stole third and scored on a sac fly. Reyes and the Mets small time. Rollins and the Phils, big time.

Haus - I don't disagree with a single thing you said. I'll go to war in 2008 with Wright, Reyes (not ready to give up on him just yet), Beltran, Maine, Ollie and Endy. All the rest can go get fucked. And that includes Willie.
11:05 AM
Toasty, I am going to assume that you meant to include Pedro on your list. He pitched a helluva game when it mattered earlier this week only to see his fielders flub grounders and his batters score no runs.
11:48 AM
All I have to say is Embarassing. To be world class professional athletes in put on that sort of performance is utterly laughable. As DWright said, they deserved it.
I'll see you next April 3 at Back Page Toasty. Now its onto thinking Eli Manning with throw 30 TD's to Plax, and watching Cirque de SoKnicks.
Go Rangers!!
12:22 PM
Thanks for providing my first laugh since The Historic Choke. The El Duque one got me. Now returning to utter despair.
12:29 PM
Was Green that bad? I'm actually a fan of his. I think he was batting over .300 before the injury, and despite missing 32 games, still had 30 doubles, .291BA, just under .990 fielding (I don't know if that's good) and can play first when needed.
My Bronxness disallows me from saying anything significantly bad about Willie, hopefully you guys will have a productive Winter, and should he have to go, well, Larry Bowa kind of annoys me at Third Base, maybe he can come back across the river...
12:31 PM
I completely blocked out all post-game discussions and headed straight towards the meadowlands. It was a nice distraction being there for at least a few hours. Today I plan on moving from shock to denial.
1:33 PM
haha... one of the funniest things I have ever read... nice work
