Refresher Time
In baseball, a batted ball is considered a sacrifice fly if the following four criteria are met:(i) There are fewer than two outs when the ball is hit.
(ii) The ball is hit to the outfield.
(iii) The batter is out because an outfielder or an infielder running in the outfield catches the ball (or would have been out if not for an error).
(iv) A runner who is already on base scores on the play.
As addressed within Rule 10.09(e) of the Official Baseball Rules[1], a sacrifice fly is not counted as a turn at bat for the batter, though the batter is credited with a run batted in.
The purpose of not counting a sacrifice fly as an at bat is to avoid penalizing hitters for a successful tactical maneuver. The sacrifice fly is one of two instances in baseball where a batter is not charged with a time at bat after putting a ball in play; the other is the sacrifice hit. However, a sacrifice fly still reduces a player's on base percentage, and a player on a hitting streak will have the hit streak end if he has no official at-bats but he has a sacrifice fly.
The sacrifice fly is credited even if another runner is put out on appeal for failing to tag up, so long as a run scores prior to the third out. In the case of a fly ball dropped for an error, the sacrifice fly is only credited if the official scorer believes the run would have scored had the ball been caught.
You fucking get it now, dummies?

That AB by Wright was positively A-Rodesque. Tie score in the 9th inning of a must-win game. . .123 RBIs on the season. . .runner on 3rd with no outs . . . 3-0 count. . . And I thought we had the only superstar third baseman who is unable to hit an effin fly ball when it matters. On a positive note, he'll probably win the MVP award now.
Not to get all schadenfreudey on you and your loyal readers, but it is inconceivable to me that our team was eliminated from the playoffs with 6 games remaining and you're tied for the wild card, yet my mental state is infinitely better than yours. I honestly think it's for the best that you don't make the playoffs, because a 5-game series with the Cubs will be a massacre.
We may be out, but we'll still win 90 games. And next year, Giambi, the decaying Pettitte and Pavano will be gone, the bullpen looks unstoppable, Alfredo Aceves is looking like a potential 5th starter to go along with Sabathia, Wang, Joba and Hughes. Throw in Texiera at first and all should be good with the world.

Green light on 3-0? Seriously?
Ahem, that's 'converted' superstar third baseman who is unable to hit an effin fly ball when it matters, thank you.
Ugh.
I don't know how much complaining is reasonable, making the playoffs every year since, or even just enjoying a team that wins a lot evey year since college, a lot to be thankful for. I can't blame all the injuries, though there were a lot, but I would point to the loss of Matsui, because more than most elements, timely clutch hitting wins championships, and Posada, whose clubhouse presence is 10 times as strong when he can swing a bat. And Wang. Damn that NL :P

Wait wait wait, you mean we could have scored without getting a hit? I am intrigued by this. Do you think it is possible to diagram this out? I am just a bit confused about the whole "scoring" thing... oh well.
I am going to show up to Shea on Sunday and start a "we want K rod" chant... Nay, a "we NEED K Rod".
to the Yankees fans, we have Carlos "Joe Boo" Delgado. If we make it to the post season, everything changes and I think we could give the Cubbies a run for their money. The only positive I can bring out of this is that, in recent years, statistically we have a better chance of getting to the World Series being the wild card. IF we get the wild card...

As Jackie Childs would say, this was the worst of our many humiliations. I really don't want to watch anymore. I think the DVR, the Presidential Debate and College and NFL Football can get me through the rest of the week and weekend. If they're in the postseason or a one-game playoff, please send me a text.
There is no way you could say that it's better for this team to fail (again) to make the playoffs. The now likely outcome of Collapse Part 2 Electric Bugaloo is the worst possible thing for this franchise. Does anyone remember how much the fans absolutely HATED this team during April, May and June? That was a direct carry-over from '07, and it would be compounded tremendously following a second straight season (though possibly mitigated by the new ballpark). I mean, if we blow this again, is anyone really going to be in any mood to head out Sunday and watch some celebration ceremony for a team we all despise?
Who cares what could possibly happen in the NLDS? I think our Yankee fan friends are forgetting what a monumental achievement it is for most teams to even qualify for the postseason (hence, the champagne and all that). I wouldn't be thrilled to be swept in the first round, but that outcome is certainly preferable to reliving this nightmare.

The Yankee fans are oozing out of woodwork now. Love, love, love it.

Milwaukee is trying it's darnedest to ruin Sabathia's arm for next season when someone else overpays for him.

Honestly, yeah. Rickey wears it as a badge of honor when Yanks fans start rooting against the Mets. We ain't mathematically eliminated yet fuckers!
